“
“I originally became curious about physical therapy in cancer care after watching many of my family members go through cancer treatment and seeing them suffer through the terrible side effects of treatment. At the time I didn’t know what it was happening, but I knew my family members were suffering and often found themselves relying on other people to take care of them. As I grew up I found that my experiences weren’t singular, and everyone can name someone they love who has been affected by cancer
During my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to conduct exercise classes for a group of cancer survivors. During my time at Central Michigan University, I became involved in the American Physical Therapy Association – MI Chapter Oncology Special Interest Group. Through both experiences, I learned that many people diagnosed with cancer are unaware of the resources and help available to mitigate the side effects of cancer treatment.
I want to be an advocate for all people diagnosed with cancer at all stages of the process, from pre-diagnosis through survivorship, to help people gain and keep their independence as long as possible.”
